North Carolina's largest outdoor FLY-FISHING festival

Welcome to Maggie Valley, North Carolina.

Maggie Valley, North Carolina, is a scenic mountain community in western North Carolina, surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains. It is known for wooded hillsides, mountain cabins, family-owned restaurants, craft shops, motorcycle tourism, and easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The valley has a relaxed, rustic atmosphere.

May is one of the very best months to be fly fishing in the Smoky Mountains and Western North Carolina region.

  • Jonathan Creek: The closest and most accessible option. It runs through Maggie Valley and is stocked with trout in sections. It offers convenient roadside access and is suitable for beginners, though water levels and fishing pressure can vary. You literally can wader up, fly fish and be at the festival grounds within minutes.
  • Cataloochee Creek: Located in Cataloochee Valley within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this is a beautiful wild-trout stream. Anglers may find brook, brown, and rainbow trout, depending on the section. The setting is quiet and scenic, with historic buildings, elk, and abundant wildlife.
  • West Fork of the Pigeon River: Near nearby Waynesville, this river offers additional trout water and is popular for both fly fishing and is a free stone river.
  • Deep Creek: A little farther away near Bryson City, Deep Creek provides excellent Smokies-style fly fishing, particularly for anglers seeking wild mountain trout in a more remote setting.
  • Smoky Mountains streams: Numerous smaller streams in the national park offer opportunities for fishing for native brook and brown and rainbow trout.

The Fly-Fishing Culture that comes together

All festivals have a "vibe," and each year this one has its own. From sitting down to watch and learn from some of the best local and national fly tyers to learning the fundamentals of fly fishing in a fun outdoor setting. The people that come out are what make this fly-fishing festival unique and fun.
